Rhode Island

Providence

Cranston, RI
The Time Capsule
This place is a comic book store / record shop. They have 2 locations, one in Cranston, RI the other 11 miles away in Seekonk, MA. I went to both. The RI location was very similar to the MA location, they have bins full of common LP's for $3 each unless marked otherwise. All the good shit is on the wall above the commons. I bought a Clash "Sandinista" UK pressing and was happy with that. They had about 100 misc collectable LP's on the wall, some with a pretty big price tag on them. Recommended.

Providence
Round Again Records - This little shop didn’t have much for me, mostly common LP’s. He did have a couple of Metallica bootleg LP’s but they were $50 each so if you want them, I left them there. If you’re in Providence you may want to check this place out, I think the next time I am, I will not. 278 Wickenden st.

9/3/11 - OK, so I was back in Providence a month after my original post above on Labor Day weekend and just happened to be walking by this shop again, so I went in. For some reason the owner seemed to have a bad attitude. WTF? Did he read my previous review or something? Whatever. I did notice that since last month he sold those two $50 Metallica bootlegs, so he should be happy, but he wasn't, he had poopy pants. Unhappily staring at me as I looked through his stock. I flipped through his common LP's for about 5 minutes and bailed.

Olympic Records
The unique LP bins and the legs they are on
Flash, Gorgar and Black Knight
Olympic Records - This shop is just about a block up the street from Poopy Pants Records, sorry, I mean Round Again Records. I liked this Olympic shop. Complete with 3 very cool pinball machines sitting there all lit up and ready for play. All of the bins are custom and made of wood. These are really nice, the only bummer was when you have finished flipping through the LP's it's a pain in the ass to move them all back into position for the next person as the bins are taller than the LP's inside. If they cut a hole of some sort into the front of these bins you could push the LP's back much easier. All of these bins are all sitting on some kind of metal roller type conveyor thing.

They play vinyl in the store. Cool. When I walked in Siouxsie and the Banshees were on. The shop has a super cool vibe, I like it. I sneezed and one of the two helpful owners blessed me from where they sat. I do not know if they have the authority or are qualified to bless me, but it was a nice gesture. They had a good supply of "alternative" LP's like The Pixies, The Cure and the like, mostly new reissues. The other half of the store stock was used rock stuff of various stripe.

However, as much as I was digging on the store, I was unable to find anything I wanted to buy. Try as I might, any LP that I may have been interested in had scratches. They had a few things I would have bought like the 2 German Black Sabbath pressings or the Elton John UK press or the Clash promo....but they all had scratches. Better luck next time I hope. Cool points for the shop in general and the pinball games. 580 Wickenden Street Providence, RI 02903 Recommended.

Armageddon Record Shop - Nice organized shop. Deep selection of both metal and punk in new vinyl. Used stock is limited. If your into punk and / or metal and are looking for new vinyl, this guy will probably have it. 436 Broadway Providence, RI.

  8. ROUND AGAIN RECORDS on Wickenden St. In response to previous post on 9-3-11: Don't feel bad. The owner of this shop is just really grumpy all the time. He sits at his counter and glares at the customers making for a most uncomfortable experience. He should spend some of his "glaring time" dusting and cleaning the shop. It is so dusty in there I have to leave so my nose will unstuff! All in all this place is a place to avoid.....don't even have a good selection.
